HOW TO HELP YOUR ANXIOUS DOG DEAL WITH FIREWORKS
With very few planned firework displays going on this year, I have a feeling there will be more household firework being let off, meaning it will be harder to comfort your anxious dogs. Here are a few ideas to help calm dogs during the next week or so:
-
Walk them during daylight hours to avoid times when fireworks are likely to be set off
-
Close windows and curtains to muffle the sound of fireworks
-
Put on some music or tv to mask the firework sounds
-
Create a quiet space where your dog can feel in control
-
Create some safe hiding places around your home
-
Stay with your pet to reassure them. Don't leave them home alone
-
Seek your vets advice. They may be able to prescribe mild sedatives for dogs who get really anxious.
